Department of Laws
LSB or Forum Meetings
The purpose of this letter is to invite the views of Laws students and staff on the continuance of the Laws Studies Board (LSB).
The Principal - reflecting the views of Senior Management – has made clear that elected student representatives of classes should not be granted an EXEAT so that they can attend LSB or forum meetings. This creates a problem since some elected representatives of Laws classes are unable to attend LSB meetings due to a timetable clash (we meet once, no more than twice, a term).
It follows that we have three options (other suggestions are welcome).
Others have suggested that instead of having a Departmental Studies Board we should hold meetings for each individual class (this would mean fifteen meetings instead of one). However, as Head of Department, I object to this approach since it undermines/removes the concept of an elected representative and would waste valuable class time.
