Elected members of the Laws Studies Board

All Laws Academic staff are members of the LSB. Mr Nathan Scott will be the Academic Chair for 2009-10.

At the start of the new Academic Year (in accord with the constitution of the Laws Studies Board) each class - whether it be AS Law, A2 Criminal Law, AS Citizenship, ILEX Paralegal, Laws Research, AS Politics and/or A2 Politics - will be entitled to have a student representative on the Laws Studies Board. All academic staff, working within the Department, will be entitled to attend and contribute to meetings of the Laws Studies Board.

Accordingly, elections for positions on the LSB will take place in the first few weeks of term. Any student should be able to volunteer - and/or be nominated - to be elected by their classmates to be the class representative on the Laws Studies Board. In addition, staff have powers to nominate up to two students to the Studies Board (these could be students that display a keen interest - but, due to competition, were not elected by their fellow students).

The Laws Studies Board is expected to meet no more than twice per term - i.e. in one of the lunch time blocks (an EXEAT will be needed for some students - or they could send a substitute from the same class). The Board will be encouraged to discuss a variety of issues affecting students - with students and staff having the opportunity to establish agenda issues varying from syllabus options/changes, homework issues, book selection, and student involvement in any "micro-lessons" (these occur when potential staff are being interviewed). However, it needs to be made clear that the Laws Studies Board is a "consultation forum only" - it does not deal with disciplinary or confidential issues (which are the prerogative of the academic staff) and it does not have powers to veto, or delay, any decisions of the staff or the College.

In due course, it is hoped that minutes of meetings of the Laws Studies Board will be made available via this page.
