Strode's College - MOOTING COMPETITION

Trial: Non Fatal Offence Against the Person.

Date of Trial:  To be announced.

Appellant Senior Counsel and Appellant Junior Counsel

v

Respondent Senior Counsel and Respondent Junior Counsel

Dress must be smart and a gown worn (a wig is not necessary). Both the Appellant and Respondent will each have a maximum of 20 minutes to present their case. The Appellant team shall open, the Respondent Team will respond and the Appellant Team will have a final summing up (only in relation to issues previously discussed and if they have not used all of their allotted 20 minutes).

In preparation for the moot - i.e. by no later than the day before - parties are required to agree/exchange ALL cases that they intend to refer to in the competition. The Appellant Junior Counsel must then provide a copy of ALL case materials to the Official Moot Clerk (or a Judge of the Moot) at least five minutes prior to the start of the Moot (s/he will then pass them to the Judge).

What is a mooter judged upon?

1. The content of each mooter's legal argument [30 marks]

2. Their presentation of that argument [30 marks]

3. Their flexibility and skill in handling the Judge's interventions and answering of questions [20 marks]

4. The overall impression they created when on their feet [20 marks]

Please note: Should any Counsel fail to hand in case materials, turn up late for the moot, or fail to turn up at all, his/her Law Team could lose marks and/or face disqualified from the competition. It is inevitable that disciplinary action - for un-professional conduct - will follow.
