| Sir, Dr Matthew Weait, a lecturer in law (letter, October 17), warns us that we have ìa moral and social responsibility to assume . . .(that we) . . . may be lied toî and that if something that we didn't want to happen happens, ìit is not a matter for the criminal courtsî.
Does this apply only to the transmission of HIV infection, or does he think that anyone who is lied to and is then robbed, mugged, or cheated by the liar has only him/herself to blame and that it is not a matter for the criminal courts? Yours faithfully,
IAN BAIRD,
