The ILEX Legal Studies Course 'Law for Non-Lawyers'

Year 1 - The ILEX Certificate in Legal Studies ...

The City & Guilds - 'Level 2 ... ILEX Award/Certificate/Diploma in Legal Studies'.

During the first term of the academic year students will be prepared (in some lessons each week) for the 'Unit 201 - Legal Environment' multi-choice examination which takes place in November/December. During this same period students will be undertaking assignments for 'Unit 205 - Law in the Workplace'. This will be followed by 'Unit 202 - Principles of Liability'.

Unit 201 - The Legal Environment

Unit 202 - Principles of Liability

Unit 205 - Law in the Workplace

The above three Units make up the the ILEX 'Certificate' in Legal Studies which is undertaken over one academic year. Students undertaking the ILEX 'Diploma' in Legal Studies will spend an additional academic year on the course undertaking Unit 203 - Principles of Criminal Law, Unit 204 - Principles of Debt Recovery, and Unit 207 - Consumer rights.

The ILEX Assignment Contract (see Int4 below) should be signed by staff and students. Only the 'ILEX Moderation Panel' can extend/change assignment submission deadlines (your Laws Tutor/Teacher cannot).

Appeal Process: Any student who is unhappy with their assignment grades (or on any other issue - including being excluded from the 'ILEX Legal Studies Course' for failing to submit an assignment in accord with an 'ILEX Assignment Contract') does have a right to make an appeal to the 'ILEX Moderation Panel'. Appeals should be submitted - in writing - to Dr Peter Jepson (Chair of the 'ILEX Moderation Panel', Strode's College). Please see your Laws Tutor/Teacher, Personal Tutor, or Learning Support, if you require advice or help with making such an appeal.

Moodle online multi-choice tests

The student and NOT the Laws Teacher is responsible for fulfilment of the 'ILEX Assignment Contract'. The student is solely responsible for their own assignment materials. The student must maintain copies at all times (both online and in a file). When submitting assignments for assessment the student MUST maintain the original file copy. Once an assignment has been graded the student should also keep the returned marked/graded copy until it is submitted for final assessment.

The ‘Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Legall Studies’ course is designed to prepare students for employment in a job where the basics of law could be useful (a basic knowledge of law can be useful if you plan to work in the retail trade, in leisure services, in general business, in security, or in a paralegal capacity - such as court clerks, in a solicitors/barristers office, or in an advice centre). The course is delivered via your Laws Tutor/Teacher, using these materials and the relevant Legal Studies Coursebook. There is no formal sit down GCSE style examination - with candidates assessed through necessary homework assignments and a multi-choice question paper.
