Please note that you NEED a Criminal Law book for read and precis purposes ("I do not have a book" is not a valid excuse). We advise A2 Law students to purchase 'Criminal Law for A2’ by Jacqueline Martin (Hodder Arnold 2006) and/or the third edition of 'Criminal Law' by Diana Roe (published by Hodder Arnold).

It is additionally recommended that A2 Law students purchase a 'Criminal Law Cases and Materials' textbook since you will need to establish more depth and analysis in your essay work. Logically, a recently published book – with recent case law - is better than an older one! Please Note: Dr Peter Jepson does NOT have any spare or second-hand cases and materials textbooks. Examples of suitable books: 'Text, Cases and Materials on Criminal Law' by Jonathan Herring - 'Criminal Law: Text and Materials' by Clarkson & Keating and/or 'Elliott & Wood's Cases and Materials on Criminal Law' by Michael J Allen.

There is an easier text to follow, which uses pictures, but it is not recommended for A2 students (unless they are really struggling with the subject). However, it could be useful as a revision aid - see 'A2 Law for OCR' by Jimmy O'Riordan (please note at Strode's College we do Criminal Law for A2 - this book also covers other areas such as Contract Law).

Should you decide to study for a Law Degree you will find that a Criminal Law Cases and Materials textbook is, almost, an essential requirement. So buy one now!
