• Plan an answer to the question (use sub-headings in your essay).
• Establish an essay structure.
• In your introduction explain how you intend to answer the question.
• Within each Sub-heading discuss and explain the issues – try to give examples and opinions.
• Try to give an overview.
• Give a brief overriding conclusion.

Answer Q1 and either Q2 or Q3 from the below questions.

Q1 - Discuss the view that judges are ‘old out of touch and mainly white and male’. [20 marks]

Q2 - Explain what a conditional fee is. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using this way of funding a case.  [20 marks]

Q3 – Discuss whether there is adequate access to justice under the present system of publicly funding civil cases.  [20 marks]

General Advice: Plan your answer and make sure that you answer the question (do not simply write about the subject). Demonstrate that you are answering the exam question by continually relating back to the essay title. Remember the marks are in the discussion – explain your thinking. Brief answers are inadequate and get low marks! Use ALL of the allocated twenty minutes sensibly.
